Yvaine woke up from the alley that she had been sleeping in during the day. She hadn't adapted to human life at all yet. It was still very, very strange for her. The moon was finally up high in the sky and the stars, or she refers to them as her sisters, shined brightly.
She stumbled and finally got balanced on her feet. She had meet Tara, but her and Tara went their separate ways since she had gotten to the Waste and finally to the Outlander's City. She held onto the door handle on a back alley door and started to walk out of the alley. Not knowing what to do next.

Reubens blundered through the dark, using the wall as a guide. He'd been out for a few, y'know, just to take the stress off a little, but he'd felt that, while two was too many, one hadn't been enough, 'specially with what he'd had on his mind. he checked in his trouser pocket for Chalky's fingers, and found seven. Oh well, just as well he'd left the camera back at the hotel. Wherever the hell that is, he thought, through an alcoholic haze. He found the alley quite by accident and stumbled as his guide and support disappeared, and he fell against the wall. He saw something vaguely human shaped in the alley on his way down, which, as he knew didn't bode well.

Yvaine stopped when she heard a thud behind her. She turned her head as her hair whipped around in a quick motion. She fixed her dress as she turned around and the moonlight flooded into the alley so she could see better. A light flicked on above her head as the shop in the alley opened.
Yvaine saw the man huddled against the wall and walked over to him. "Are you all right?" She asked, a few feet away from him.

Reubens pushed off the ground with his hands and attempted to stand up, which succeeded, by degrees. "Yes," Muttered Reubens under his breath "I'm fine, it's the wall you want to be asking. Lot a damage my head could do to a brick wall, y'know," It was remarkable, on Reubens' part, going from impact to sarcasm in under ten seconds. Even by the standards of normal cynicism it was remarkable.

Yvaine looked at the wall and her eyes widned. He had left a small, but noticable dent in the brick but, oh well, it was brick it would last. He didn't look like much of an Outlander's City beggar. Maybe he's not from around here...Yvaine thought. "What are you doing here in a back alley?" She asked.

Reubens gave the girl a look he usually reserved for the clinically insane. "I'm composing an orchestra, what do you think?" He held his head in one hand "I'm getting lost, is what," Well, there was something. He'd never had two headaches at once before. He wondered how it worked exactly. That, and how he could best stop it.

Yvaine scoffed. "You know, I was going to try to help you find your way, I know the city pretty well. But if your going to be like that...then I might as well just let you rot here." She crossed her arms and started to turn on her heel. She hated people how use sarcasm as a first resort.

Something clicked in Reuben's mind, something about his stuff and directions. "Oh shit," He murmured, getting to his feet, a tad unsteadily "wait, hang on," Reubens was lost for words, not least because 'sorry' was hideously out of context, and anything else wasn't appropriate for an alleyway.

Yvaine turned around when she heard the man call out to her again. She looked at the man as she rested her hands on her hips. She wondered if he would apologize or not. Either way, she want to help him out, somewhat. But it was only because she was pitying him at this point. "Is there something you want to say?" she asked.

Reubens looked into the girl's eyes, and took a guess at the right reply. "Could you give me a hand getting home," Reubens began "is what I meant to say from the beginning," Well, it was worth a try, anyway.

Yvaine sighed as she thought about what she was going to say to the man. She would have liked an apology better, but he didn't look like the kind of man that would apologize for a small set of sarcasm. Yvaine finally came to a decision. "I'll help you..." She droned. Yvaine soon wondered if she would regret her decision or not. "I have nothing better to do." She shrugged.

Reubens just about kept back a sigh of relief. After all, he did have absolutely no idea how to get back to his stuff (and to a lesser extent his room). "Cheers, man," He said, walking slightly more upright this time "I'd be damned without you,"

Yvaine uncrossed her arms as she watched the man finally get up right. "Are you sure you are all right?" She asked him again. "You don't look so good." Yvaine straightened up and started to turn around in the alley waiting for the man to follow.

Reubens stumbled a bit, but remained largely upright. He crossed and uncrossed his eyes briefly, looking highly comical to everyone except himself. "Oh don't worry about me," He said, waving nonchalantly at the idea he might not be fine "I've drunk worse than this. The homebrew ammonium phosphate we had back home, f'rinstance. Like drinking fermented battery acid. After all, that's what it was, anyway,"

"Um...ok." Yvaine gulped. She hadn't really drank before, but she knew you could get drunk...she just never really knew what that was. "Where are you trying to go?" She asked. Yvaine knew the outlander's City could be a confusing place...plus with all the gang activity swirling around at night, she thought she should get this guy wherever he needed to be before he got the living crap beaten out of him. Or even killed.

Reubens looked consultively at the blue light on over the alley shop. He seemed mesmerised for a moment by the gnats and moths fluttering around it. "Er, Ripper's Rest," He said, after some thought "In Carcer street, I think," Okay, so it didn't exactly sound reputable, but hey, where was? Well, not Carcer street, obviously.

Yvaine thought about the street he said. "I know where that is." She nodded. "It's clear on the other side of the city...how the hell did you get this far out?" She asked surprised.
She shook her head and fixed the skirt of her dress and turned around as she made it out to the street covered by a thin layer of sand. "I'm Yvaine, by the way."

"Reubens," He said, following behind "Reubens Rusby, but 'Limey' will be fine. And I got here by going on what is traditionally called 'a pub crawl'," Although in reality, exactly how was beyond him. Beer wings was his first guess.

Yvaine could smell the whiskey on him. "If I were you, I wouldn't drink in this city." She told him as she turned out of the dingy alley. "At least, not during the middle of the night. Your better off drinking in the day. People have gotten killed by gangs in the middle of the night. And to see the way you're walking, i don't think you could hold your own in a fight right about now."

Reubens chuckled and grinned. "You don't think I could fight now?" He said, sounding surprised "You should see me when I'm sober," He stumbled a bit and kept using the alley's wall as a guide. "And anyway, it wasn't the middle of the night when I started..."
