Kieveira made her way down the platformed walkways. It was early morning, and a thick fog rolled over the slums. She wore a brown hooded sweat shirt, the hood up over her ears and horns. Her green skirt reached her furry "knees". She reached a small run down house and entered. It was one room except for a tiny bathroom. She walked over to the mattress on the floor, where a small boy lay on it. She felt his forehead for fever and was relieved to find it had cooled down. he woke up and smiled with few teeth. "Feeling better?" She asked. "Yes, ma'am," he relied, getting up, "I can't thank you enough." "It was my pleasure," she said with a smile. "I don't have much, but I can pay," the small boy said reaching into his pockets. Kieveira held up a hand in protest. "Don't worry about it. A pick pocket makes barely enough to live on. just do me a favor, and send your friends my way when they need something. They don't get it for free though." Kieveira gave him a small parcel of medication, and she sent him on his way. She then flopped down on her bed with a sigh. She shouldn't be giving these pauper boys free treatment. at this rate, she'll never make enough to leave the slums, much less Zationia.

Sookie Merlotte danced through the streets of Zationia. She had her lacy, black dress on with her black pumps. She had over a thousand marks in her hand. She wanted to find more people to give money to. She had so much and people in the Slums had so little. It made her feel horrible.
Sookie's body had a slight glow around it. Her wings were unseen and she stopped where she was and listened for thoughts.
I can't give these pauper boys free treatments. I'll never make enough money to leave the Slums, much less Zationia. Sookie heard. She followed the thoughts to a small room where a girl lay on the bed.
"Uh...ma'am...are you alright?' Sookie asked in a clear voice with a slight southern accent.

Kieveira jumped, flipping herself backwards off the mattress. She hadn't expected someone to come in so quickly. Rubbing her stubby left horn she got up and saw a fairy in her doorway. She looked rather spectacular, not the kind of grimey that one sees in the slums. She stood up, flattening out her skirt and smoothing her messy brown hair. "Oh, I'm fine, just fine," she said, a little flustered, "You should knock first. I nearly jumped out of my skin. Is there something I can do for you?" Her healers staff leaned on the wall next to her. She took it in he hands. The girl may look rich, but there were few doctors in the slums to begin with. Kieveira didn't discriminate, and she'd take on any person that came to her.

"Oh, I am so, so sorry." Sookie apologized. She smoothed her hair and came into the room. "And no," She shook her head. "I don't need any help or healing." She said, eying the healing staff.
She looked around the place. "I was actually wondering if I could help you." She said. She forgot introductions. "Hello, I am Sookie Merlotte." She smiled, extending her hand.

Kieveira extended her hand in return, slightly surprised. It all seemed a little too surreal, almost suspicious. "I'm Kieveira," she said, "What do you mean by help?" Kieveira took a look at her own surroundings. The small room seemed to scream poverty. I guess it does look like i need help, she thought.

Sookie bit her lip. "I am Sookie Merlotte. An important fairy in our race. You see, I am very rich and it makes me feel horrible seeing people like you have so little, when I have so much." She sighed. She never wanted to offend anyone.
"I heard your thoughts, not on purpose," She put her hands up in protest. "I just heard them, I'm telepathic. And I thoughts that maybe i could help you. I have marks right in my pocket and be more than willing to help you, if your willing to take the marks." Sookie told her.

The look on Kieveira's face was one of pure disbelief. her head leaned to the side, she lifted and eyebrow, and her mouth hung open. "You gotta be kidding me," was all she could say. She turned and placed a hand on her own forehead. I must be going nuts, she thought. She turned back to look at Sookie. She seemed perfectly serious.

Sookie felt bad. She felt she had offended the woman. She paced around the room and sat down slowly on the bed. "Are you okay, Miss-?" She didn't know her name. Kieveira, said her thoughts. "Miss Kieviera, I was just trying to help. If you don't want my help I will leave right now." Sookie promised.

"No, no, no, it's fine, really," Kieveira said waving her hands in protest. She looked at the chic fairy wondering if fairy godmothers really exist. Then she wondered about the offer. She knew what Mother would have said: "You make your own way around here. No one is gonna lend you a hand around here. If someone does, their nuts." Then Aard, her old mentor, popped into her mind. She could almost her her bellowing voice: "*COUGH* Bleh, Kieveira, take money when you need it. #$%@ this whole to proud to take charity thing humans have. We minotaurs are no rude enough to turn down an offer of help. *COUGO COUGH* Besides, you need cash if your going to the homelands." "How much are you offering?" asked Kieveira.

Sookie watched as the girl wandered off for a few seconds then said, "How much are you offering?"
"As much as you need." Sookie replied. "I can tell by your body and your healing staff that your a minotaur healer. These are very hard to come by these days." Sookie added. "And it looks like you made need some help.' Sookie said, gesturing around the room. Sookie dug into her pocket and pulled out as many marks as she had. She handed it over to Kieveira. "Here....take it."

Kieveira gave a small smile and blushed slightly, "Minotaur on my father's side, but no where near a full minotaur healer. That's why I have to get out of the Slums, and out to the Wastes where I can finish my training. I have no idea what that costs. Besides, I can't just take money from a stranger. Isn't there a way I can earn it." The idea popped into her head immediately. Such a lavish lady must surely be in need of a servant, or personal physician in Kieveira's case. This sort of arrangement would fulfill the wishes of her mother and her mentor.

Sookie closed her eyes and read Kieveira's throats. Such a lavish lady must surely be in need of a servant or a personal physician. Kieveira thought.
Sookie bit her lip. She wanted to help this woman so much...and if that's how she wanted to earn the money then Sookie couldn't deny her of that. She took a deep breath.
"Miss Kieveira, if you wish to be my..." Sookie didn't want to use the word "servant". It sounded so demanding to her. "...maid and personal physican...that would be perfectly fine with me. I would absolutely love to help you earn money to go out to the Waste and finish your training." Sookie ended with a warm smile.

Kieveira clapped her hands together excitedly. She was one step closer, closer than she'd ever been. Oh Mother, Old Aard, and father-who-ever-he-was, I'm so close. "When do I start?" she asked. She wasn't sure if the fairy lived in this town or not. it didn't seem to matter.

"Well," Sookie thought. "You could start right now." She shrugged and gave a grin.
"I have some things to do around Zationia and then I'm going back home. I own a house in the Inner City. I have a large extra room if you care to stay there." Sookie offered. "I will pay you five hundred marks a week for your service and will help you with any supplies you would be in need of." Sookie promised.
Sookie actually kind of liked the idea of having a maid. She wouldn't be a slave driver, but having someone to help out with her things would be helpful and the company would be a joy to have.
"My zoomer is parked outside if you wish to start your job now." Sookie said, standing in the doorway.

Kieveira looked around the dingy room. Shouldn't she sell it before she left? Nah, it wasn't worth anything anyway. Most of her belongings were already in a knap sack on the other end of the room. A few bottles and herbs were scattered about, and she had dirty dishes by the sink. She could leave now if she wanted. "Yeah, the sooner the better," she said going for her bag. Suddenly she heard someone slamming on her door. "Ye dirty half-breed, open up!" shouted a gruff voice. Kieveira cursed inthe back of her mind. It was her mother's old pimp. Ten years she's been dead, but why can't he leave her alone! He always came around, demanding free medication and such. He would say it was only fair, since he "let" her mother keep her. She had no reason to give him anything, except for the fact that he was scary when mad.

"Who is that, Kieveira?" Sookie asked. Kieveira was too afraid to speak, but not to think. Sookie listened to her thoughts and found out that it was her mother's old pimp. Sookie gulped as the pounding got louder.
Sookie brought her finger up to her lips, telling Kieveira to be silent. Sookie lifted the skirt of her dress up to her knee to revel the chain wrapped around her leg. She unhooked it and steadied it in her hand. She let her skirt drop to the floor.
Sookie grasped the door knob and quickly opened it. She saw the man and threw the chain at his neck. The chain wrapped around his neck as many times as it could and started to strangle him. He fell to the floor and gasped for air.
"Kieveira, it's alright now." Sookie assured her, standing over the man watching him gasp for breath. Sookie bent down and unwrapped the chain, aggressively, from the man's neck. The man got up and Sookie whacked him in the back with the chain. he ran off in pain. His thoughts were all swears.
Sookie sighed. She turned around and smiled. "Well," She started. "This has started out to be an interesting day. Come along now." She gestured her hand and walked though the Slum streets with the chain at her side in case he came back.

Kieveira watched him run off. A cold lump fell in her stomach. She had better leave now, especially before he got back. She followed Sookie out the door to the zoomer. "Was that really, um, necessary?" she asked, "I could have just told him off or something." The zoomer caught her eyes. She didn't see too many nice vehicles like that in the slums. She couldn't remember the last time she rode one.

Sookie listened to Kieveira. She didn't want to do ti to the man, but Kieveira couldn't hear his thoughts. His sick, twisted minded thoughts. Sookie shivered. "Um..." Sookie jumped into the driver's side of the zoomer. "Let's just say...i don't think he was planning on leaving that time." He was actually thinking of killing Kieveira. But....Sookie wasn't sure if she should tell her that.
Sookie started the zoomer up as it hovered above the ground. Kieveira was still standing aside. "Well," Sookie grinned. "Are you coming or not?" She laughed. She threw her chain down by the console.
"It's a very sturdy vehicle. You'll be perfectly safe in it." She tried to assure Kieveira. Sookie felt like a bad boss at this point. She had pretty much scared the living crap out of the poor girl doing that to the pimp. But it was just natural. Sookie had to fight off people who wanted things from her when her parents were killed. Sookie couldn't help it when she heard his thoughts. Sookie feared for Kieveira's safety. Kieveira was a nice girl and Sookie wasn't gonna let anything happen to her.

Kieveira climbed clumsily into the zoomer. She was rather tall, and her hoofed feet didn't fit in the vehicle as smoothly as human feet did. She borught her pack with her. "So," she began uneasily, "You read minds. Is it... annoying?" Kieveira had never met a mind reader before. It frightened her slightly. She didn't want someone in her mind.

"Somewhat." Sookie said as she took the zoomer out of park and started to hover through the narrow streets of the Slums. "I'm sorry about reading your mind. I know it is quiet rude. But you see, when I meet someone new, their thoughts automatically go to my brain. I'll learn to block your thoughts soon." Sookie assured her.
Sookie hovered into the air and started to head toward the Inner City. "Have you ever been to the Inner City, Kieveira?" Sookie asked her.
